Rebecca Millholland Dessauer
86, passed away January 11, 2012. She was born August 25, 1925 in Fontana, California, the daughter of Ernest and Laura (Wakeland) Millholland. She graduated from Shortridge H.S. in 1943 and attended Williams Wood College and graduated from Butler University with a degree in child psychology. During WWII she worked summers at her father's machine shop making equipment for the war effort.
She was married to Ralph Dessauer for 49 years, who preceded her in death Oct. 20, 1997.
Rebecca was a past president of the Indianapolis Art League (now Art Center). She became a Master Gardner, loved to travel, and meet new people. Until her health declined, she was very active with Oasis. She always enjoyed watercolor painting and her poetry never failed to be lighthearted and clever. She was the loving mother of 5 children who survive her, sons; Daniel (Kerry) Dessauer of Noblesville, IN, and their children Elizabeth and Benjamin, son; David (Michele) Dessauer of Indianapolis and their children Lydia, Amelia, Eva and Eric, son; Mark (Vicki) Dessauer of Evansville, IN, daughters; Sharon (Steve) Bower of Lawrenceburg, IN and their children Lee (Shannon) and Philip, daughter; Susan (David) Young of Fishers, IN and their children Stephen, Kayleigh and Hannah. She was preceded in death by brothers; Ernest and Thomas Millholland, sister; Dorie Perry and granddaughter Carissa Dessauer. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her gracious kindness and sense of humor. We love you Mom.
Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple with calling Monday, January 16, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Entombment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
