Norman E. Kruse

90, Indianapolis, passed away on October 5, 2011. He was a devoted and loving husband, a proud father, and a good friend to dozens of people. He was born in Osgood, Indiana and was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Gladys Kruse, and his sister, Dorothy Reno. Norm was a member of Pi Tau Sigma (International Mechanical Engineering Society) at Purdue University where he graduated with a BS ME magna cum laude in 1949. Upon graduation he joined Eli Lilly & Company working initially in industrial engineering and later in administration and human resources. He retired from Lilly in 1984.

Norman taught mathematics at Purdue, and various graduate classes in management at Purdue, Indiana and Iowa universities. In retirement, Norman was an active volunteer with both the Sertoma Club of Broad Ripple, the American Legion and the Service Club. He served in the Marines during WW II, trained in the air mechanic, gunnery and air navigation schools. He served in Hawaii, Australia, Kwajalein, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Guam, Saipan, Philippines, and Iwo Jima. He was discharged in October 1945. He enjoyed bridge, gin rummy, golf and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sarah Ann (Baker), his sister Emma Jean Malagrifa, his six children, Deborah DeMougin (Steve), Karen Cox (Randy), Kathy Miller, Kimberly Boyd (David), Kevin Kruse (Jan), David Kruse, and eleven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple , 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue, on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2-5 PM, with private interment services at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
