JoAnn Eroen

My sympathy goes out to Joan's family. I have been a part of their family for over 50 years. I will miss seeing her at the Honey Creek H.S. all school reunion this August. I'm sure their family get togethers will not be the same.

I was most saddened to hear of Jo Ann's passing. I am on vacation, most disappointed that I could not attend Jo Ann's memorial service. One of my fellow oncology nurse emailed me so that I would be aware...I just felt crushed when I heard this, for I would have loved to see/talk with her one last time.
We never worked together, but we became friends for we worked in out-pt. clinic @ Riley for 37 years.

One of my fellow oncology nurse emailed me so that I would be aware...I just felt crushed when I heard this, for I would have loved to see/talk with her one last time.
We never worked together, but we became friends for we worked in out-pt. clinic @ Riley for 37 years. I worked in various clinic, ended with a long career in Hem-Onc clinic. I retired 4years ago, during a bout with shingles.
How I admired Jo Ann her entire career, it was so obvious when one would see her "in action". Such an inspiration she was to all her peers, superb role model.
When I first started @ Riley in 1970, I had remember Jo Ann as the infant head nurse, I was scared of her when I was on my pediatric rotation. It was well known how much she loved "her babies", any nurse there was set to a high standard, and I wasn't particular fond of sick babies. I managed to survive the day I worked there! Whew...
When I graduated I worked down on Ward D (girls ward) where I worked til we moved to the next phase....I could see Jo Ann from time to time down the long hallway from Ward D. Then when we moved to the clinics, our friendship began. Over the years, we would talk about our jobs...how they differed/how they were similiar. We would talk about my two girls, and she would share about Jennifer.....wow, she was "all about her daughter, how proud she was of her". We shared/cared for each other/ keep in touch.
I couldn't understand why she wouldn't retire, I felt guilty (brief time) for retiring. It was just so obvious that Jo Ann had more energy and "work still to do" and didn't want to leave Riley Hosp. I understand this feeling, I never went to Riley after I was diagnosed with shingles. I just couldn't imagine me retiring from there, having to "leave on your last day" It would be to emotional painful, for she/I loved what we did, cared so much about making a difference in our pts. lives, as well as their parents/family.
I will never forget Jo Ann, for we walked those same halls, "wards", clinics together....she always had a positive attitude, accompanied with a smile and a kind word about you, as she inquired about my life....
I know that the Angels were singing the day that Jo Ann was born! I will miss seeing Jo Ann in the hall when I go back to visit Peds Cancer Center, which is just down the hall from Endo Clinic....where we could see each other down the hallways....and wave @ each other.....

I am so sorry for the loss of Jo Ann! I met her 15 years ago at Riley Hospital when my son was admitted for an adrenal insuffiency and she worked with his endocrine doctors. She was a wonderful sweet lady and I always loved seeing her smiling face when we went to Riley. She truly had a passion for her job and she touched each one of the patients with love and compassion. She will be missed by us.

I worked with JoAnn at Riley Hospital for almost 3 years. I will miss her loving positive attitude along with her style and panache. JoAnn was the type of person that when she asked how things were going with you...you knew she wasn’t just asking to be polite she was asking because she really cared! She was a wonderful person inside and out and I’m blessed to have known her.

She was a strong advocate for these children, particularly for those that lived in extended care facilities. She enjoyed reminiscing with the nurses she worked with during her early years and they often met for lunch or where one of them lived. But what I would like to express most would be to Jennifer, her daughter, she was always so

So many fond memories of the Gormong "get togethers" and esp. in later years the stories that JoAnn would tell that were new ones to me. She, Muriel and I had many laughs and some cries together. I will miss her.
