Gerald E. (Gary) Mosier passed away at home with his family on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 24, 2011. Gary was born in Athens, Ohio, on January 23, 1945 to Ruth Mathews Mosier. He was nine months old when WWII ended and his father Ervin returned from serving overseas. Following in their footsteps, Gary acquired the skills as a gardener, handyman and craftsman that he later shared with friends and neighbors. When Gary developed an interest in water skiing and learned to barefoot, the sport was so new that he and his father manufactured custom skis. Graduated from Athens High School in 1963, he enrolled at Ohio University. His studies were interrupted by the draft. Stationed in San Francisco in 1967 during the Summer of Love, he had an interesting perspective on being there for it all, but wearing Army green with his head shaved. After serving his country, he returned to Athens and completed his studies to become the first college graduate in his family. He also met the woman he would later marry, Virginia (Ginny) Carroll. They fell deeply in love together and spent the next decade and a half traveling and living a life of adventure, before settling down and having their first and only child, their son, Mathew (Mat) Mosier. Gary fondly remembered when in a panic he held his boy for the first time with one arm, thinking to himself how small he was. An avid salesman and all around snazzy dresser, Gary did well for himself and his family selling wound care supplies for many years. Mat happily remembers his parents picking him up from school well-dressed, his father in suits. Gary ended his career at Nightingale Home Health and the unfailing support provided by CEO Dr. Dev Brar and the staff is deeply appreciated. Special thanks go to Nightingale hospice nurse Matt Landis and Chaplain Robert Lim for their compassionate care. A memorial celebration will take place at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple on Sunday Dec. 4 with a reception at 2:00 and service at 3:00.
