Carl John Carlson, 68, Indianapolis, departed this life on January 16, 2012. He was born October 29, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the son of Carl Ray and Dorothy (Horne) Carlson. John was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Indiana University, where he was a member of Sigma Epsilon. He served in the Indiana National Guard for six years. John retired after a career as a security director for many companies. He was a Board Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a member of the local and national associations of the American Society for Industrial Security. John loved to tell stories to everyone he met. He was an avid mountain biker and fisherman. John was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Rev. Earl T. Bonham. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, who he married on May 25, 1974, Barbara "Barbie" (Bonham) Carlson, Indianapolis; his sister, Jacqueline Chapman, Leo, IN; his mother-in-law, Carol Bonham, Indianapolis; his many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, January 21 at 7 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Broad Ripple, with visitation from 3 PM until service time. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
